Kevin Buchin

Kevin Buchin is a professor of Algorithm Engineering at TU Dortmund University, a position he has held since 2021. He studied mathematics at the University of Münster and earned his PhD in computer science from the Free University of Berlin in 2007, followed by academic appointments in the Netherlands, including postdoctoral and faculty roles at Utrecht University and the Eindhoven University of Technology. Buchin’s research lies at the intersection of algorithm engineering and computational geometry, with a focus on geometric algorithms and data structures, spatial and geometric networks, and applications in geographic information systems (GIS) and motion analysis. His work often addresses problems involving trajectories, similarity of curves, and movement data, contributing both theoretical advances and practical algorithms in these domains.
